In a world filled with distractions and busy lives, being more productive is one of the most important things we can do says Paul Haarman.
Everyone wants to be more successful and in control of their time and life, but at work it seems like there’s never enough hours in the day to get everything done — that is, until you start doing these 7 things every day:
1.) Know your purpose
Successful people know what their values are and they make sure they always align their daily actions with those values. People who fail aren’t clear on what they value most or they value lots of different things; this causes them to focus on all sorts of different actions every day rather than the few key tasks needed for success.
Successful people start their day prioritizing. They decide what is most important to accomplish that day and then do those tasks first, before moving on to other things later in the day. If you don’t prioritize your day, someone else will — typically it’s going to be the urgent tasks that come up throughout the day rather than anything truly important.
3.) Create a plan for your time
Successful people understand how long each task takes them and create a realistic schedule for themselves using all of those factors says Paul Haarman. After they’ve created this plan, they make sure not to deviate from it too much because sticking to schedules is one of the best ways successful people ensure they’re being productive every day.
4.) Take breaks
Yes, breaks are productive too. Breaks rejuvenate our minds and make us more creative. Productivity researcher Dr. Ron Friedman says that taking deep breaths is also a great way to get the blood flowing again if you’re stuck on a hard problem at work explains Paul Haarman.
5.) Do it now!
This might sound obvious but successful people don’t put things off until later, they just do them right away. They understand that delaying something or putting it off will only cause bigger problems down the road so they go ahead and get started immediately.
Sometimes this means doing certain tasks before checking your email in the morning so you can focus on what’s important without interruption throughout the day
6.) Take responsibility for your actions
The greatest predictor of future behavior is past behavior. That’s why successful people take responsibility for their actions and learn from their mistakes so they can move forward in a positive way.
If you notice yourself taking the blame, but someone else is actually at fault, have some courage and tell them this. Successful people always give credit where it’s due even if it’s not theirs to take.
7.) Say “NO”
Although being nice and polite feels good sometimes, saying no allows successful people to focus on what they want to accomplish that day. They understand that saying yes to things that don’t align with their values or goals only reduces the chances of success down the road.
You might be wondering how you can possibly say no when your boss asks you to take on a new project or your significant other wants you to go out for dinner and drinks with them. The best way is to provide a polite explanation of why you can’t do something rather than just flat out refusing someone’s request.
These 7 habits will allow you to be more productive and successful in your work, but this is just a start. For a full course on how to be more successful in your life says Paul Haarman.
This simple daily routine is something that will make you more productive each day. It doesn’t take much time to implement, but the benefits are unlimited if you do it correctly.
You should already know your values and what’s most important to you, otherwise try starting there first. Then prioritize all of your tasks for the day ahead of time before creating a plan for completing each one on schedule.
Once you have that done, simply start doing things without putting them off or worrying about making mistakes. If you’re successful at this then never say no to anything unless it truly won’t help you achieve your goals in life!
