Paul Haarman: 7 Ways to Make 2017 the Best Year of Your Life!

Here are 7 things you can do to make 2017 your best year ever.

1. Take out the garbage

No, I’m not talking about literal trash! If you’ve been hanging on to negative thoughts or relationships, now’s the time to let them go. Negative energy is like a weight – the longer you carry it around, the harder life becomes. Let 2017 be the first year that you dump your emotional baggage and start fresh!

2. Make some goals

Having goals gives us something to aim for in life and motivates us towards success. Even if you don’t accomplish all of your goals this year, setting them will help focus your mind and inspire action. Some good ones might include: learning how to play an instrument; starting or improving your exercise routine; saving money for a special purchase or vacation.

3. Watch less TV

Do you spend hours in front of the television every day? If so, it’s time to start cutting back! When was the last time you did something positive instead of sitting on the couch and zoning out in front of “Law & Order: SVU”? Watching less TV will give you more time for pursuing your goals (like that goal to learn how to play an instrument) and help keep your mind sharp.

4. Get rid of clutter

Clutter is like emotional garbage – if you don’t get rid of it, it piles up and makes life harder than it has to be. Your home should be a haven, not a junkyard! If you have too many clothes, clean out your closet. If your desk is covered with papers, sort through them and get rid of the stuff you don’t need says Paul Haarman.

5. Declutter your social media

Social media can be a great way to keep in touch with friends and family, but it can also be a source of negativity that adds stress to your life. Several times during my day I see people venting on Facebook or retweeting some negative news story about the government or celebrities (or both!). Avoid burnout by deleting posts you don’t like and blocking users who add more negative than positive energy to your life.

6. Get enough sleep

We all know we should get more sleep, but let’s face it – life is busy and sometimes sleep gets sacrificed. If you’re tired, however, it’s hard to be productive! So go to bed a little earlier this year and try to get 7-8 hours of shut-eye. You’ll feel more relaxed, have more energy during the day, and probably live longer too!

7. Make your health a priority

Eating right and exercising are two actions that have a huge impact on our quality of life explains Paul Haarman. In addition to feeling good, getting into good shape will help prevent injury as you pursue your goals in 2017 (and beyond!) Start tracking what you eat by reading food labels or downloading an app for calorie counting. Find an exercise routine that works for you – whether it’s lifting weights at the gym, taking a yoga class, or walking your dog each day.

You may not be able to do all of these things in the new year (it’s OK if that list is too long!), but select 2-3 and really work on them this year! You’ll feel better about yourself and like life more too – what could be better than that?
